  • Project Title: Manukau Water Contract No. MW/02/x08744 Falstaff Sewage Pump Station Diversion, Half Moon Bay, Howick
  • Project Date: 07-02-2003
  • Tender Price: $1,018,000

This contract comprised  the construction of over 1 km of directionally  drilled gravity PE sewer to grade together with smaller lengths of microtunnelled vitclay sewer and the lowering of an existing wastewater pump station.

The drilling work included a challenging 530 m continuous drill under a hill for a 250 mm OD PE sewer. This drill was through predominately hard sandstone and passed beneath high value residential dwellings at depths of 12 to 18 m.

Smythe Contractors were the principal contractor fo this contract and undertook all the directionally drilling work. The microtunnelling and pump station works were subcontracted to H & H Contractors Ltd.

The contract was completed successfully and within budget during May to October 2002.
Due to the technical demands of this project, it was important to have a competent contractor undertaking the work. Smythe Contractors demonstrated a high level of technical competence throughout and proved to be well equipped, resourceful and conscientious. All the drilled lines were found to be comfortably within tolerance and to a high standard.

We would have no hesitation in recommending Symthe Contractors for other similar projects.
