Rangitahi Bulk Watermain - Raglan
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This work involved the installation of a 450mm PE water main beneath a creek at the head of the Whaingaroa Harbour.  The pipe (approx 380m) crosses farmland and a small creek which is near to an Archaeological Site, drilling through potentially hard rock, boulders and clay.
PERFORMANCE:
The project was in a culturally and environmentally sensitive area, where crystal clear water tracks down into the head of Raglan Harbour.  Risks associated with fracking in the base of the drill shot was high due to the elevation of the entry and exit sides.  Belch holes were provided to relieve the pressure adjacent to the creek and the methodology revised to suit the perfect pulling in of the pipe.  Great display of HDD showcased to complete the environmentally sensitive water crossing

Open Country Dairy - Horotiu
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Installation of all services and utilities for a new Dairy Manufacturing Site.  Various methodologies were applied pertaining to HDD and Open Cut layered Trench installations.  Open Cut installations including in ground installations covering all in ground services and amenities terminating at exact points, some to within (+/- 1mm)  Working to specific deadlines Smythe Contractors achieved all scoped work including compliance and quality (testing) within the specified time frame
PERFORMANCE:
A challenging project where Smythe Contractors were working to tight deadlines with concrete being poured on schedule behind the in-ground works requiring a workmanship quality second to none as testing (pressure) had to be done after the concrete was poured there were no rework requirements.  Smythe Contractors flexibility on-site was a valuable asset, when other parts of the main project were stalling Smythe Contractors were called upon to help out and still the completed scoped work was completed on schedule and within budget.

Kiri Place Mairangi Bay, Healthy Waters Renewals
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Properties #5 and #7 Kiri Place were located at the sag point where two stormwater flows from the eastern side and from Maxwelton Drive merge.  These were collected by two single splay catch-pits at each side of the road and due to insufficient capacity of the stormwater network, ponding use to occur in front of these properties.  In order to accommodate the increased flow of stormwater 4 new manholes, 2 hush pits and a cesspit were installed.  This allowed the water to flow from the low points in Kiri Place down to the manhole new #14 Maxwelton Dr and out into the creek.  The work involved installation of different sized pipe starting from 355mm to 710mm OD PE pipe.  The project was challenging especially due to the hard ground in North Shore and due to access issues to the bottom of the steep driveway.  Various methodologies were applied pertaining to HDD and all the pipes were installed successfully by Smythe's without any frack-out incidents.
PERFORMANCE:
The quality of work throughout this contract whether it be quality of work done, resident communication, reinstatement, collaboration with Council or day to day communication with the general public was exemplary and a credit to all those involved with this project.  HDD was incorporated to help manage and maintain traffic flows within a tight corridor as well as safety of pedestrians, being in such close vicinity to schools and bus stops.  Steep slopes and built up residential properties were also factors to contend with, access to all properties was maintained throughout the contract period through good planning and collaboration with Council.  High level Quality Assurance and extensive documentation for monthly reporting for Auckland Council was adhered to, as well as H&S, Traffic Management, as-built drawings, pipe testing and dilapidation survey reports are just a few items covered. In house and external audits were carried out periodically with very positive feedback.

Ruakura Reservoir Bulk Watermains, Hamilton
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Installation of 710mm PE Pipe for 435m under Wairere Drive, down the middle of Bailey Ave between Peachgrove Rd and the Ruakura reservoir section.  The frequency of unidentified services and their depths were navigated and confirmed differences to the proposed design.  The drill shot was realigned and marked out on the ground using GPS survey equipment.  The methodology used to successfully install the pipe involved the use of two drill rigs that included the DD440 American Auger which drilled a pilot hole and reamed the pipe route first.  The JT100 was then used to pull the pipe into place from the Peachgrove Road end.
PERFORMANCE:
This project was completed within the scheduled time and budget, making it an overall success.  The accuracy and productivity of works were of high standard along with a high focus on Environmental, H&S and QA obligations which were met.

Fonterra Picasso - Omeheu Rising Main
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Construction of a new 13.5km long 355m OD PE100 SDR13.6 Waste Water Rising Main and 63m uPVC communications duct with draw wire and pits.  These works also included various pipe sizes from 355mm down to 150mm HDPE and all its associated electronic control valves which were Directionally Drilled through Edgecumbe township. There were 3 stream crossings and one Kiwi Rail line crossing,  which also required the pipeline to be installed by directional drilling.  In between these points up to the Omeheu pump station Smythe Contractors opened trench strings of PE pipeline, which were laid, grouted around the annulus and backfilled everyday to make safe for the public and the likes of large stock movements, all this work was completed in methodical steps to finish the pipeline in the time frame required by the meticulous client requirements
PERFORMANCE:
